Abstract

This research aims to examine organizational ergonomics and its impact on job burnout among a random sample of teaching and administrative staff employed at universities, colleges, and institutes within higher education institutions in Iraq. This topic is of considerable importance because improving organizational ergonomics can enhance the work environment, increase job performance, and promote employee well-being. The research also seeks to address the problem of occupational stress and excessive workloads resulting from increasing teaching and administrative tasks assigned to employees in higher education institutions. These pressures contribute to higher levels of job burnout and adversely affect employee performance and job satisfaction. A descriptive-analytical approach was adopted, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to a random sample of teaching and administrative staff. A total of 108 valid questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and the Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) program. The results showed a statistically significant positive correlation and influence between the two variables. This finding contradicts the prevailing theoretical trend in the literature. This result suggests the possibility of other organizational or psychological factors influencing this relationship within Iraqi higher education institutions. Accordingly, the study recommends that decision-makers in Iraqi higher education institutions should move beyond the mere implementation of ergonomic practices and adopt a comprehensive approach that integrates improvements to the physical work environment with psychological and social support, while proactively managing employee expectations to reduce job burnout and enhance organizational effectiveness.
