تحاول هذه الدراسة تبيان دور الزكاة كآلية لتوفير حد الكفاية، ودورها في التقليل من حجم الفقر والفقراء، وتحليل أثر الزكاة على عملية إعادة توزيع الثروة وذلك من خلال حساب معامل جيني قبل وبعد الزكاة ورسم منحنى لورنز أيضا قبل وبعد الزكاة في المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية كدراسة حالة، إنطلق البحث من فرضيتين رئيسيتين هما: إمكانية أن تكون الزكاة آلية ناجحة في توفير حد الكفاية. وأنّ للزكاة أثر في إعادة توزيع الدخل بين فئات المجتمع.
وقد توصلت الدراسة إلى مجموعة من النتائج أهمها أن هناك اختلاف واضح بين حدي الكفاف والكفاية، كما أن للزكاة دور كبير في عملية إعادة توزيع الثروة وتقليل الفجوة بين الأغنياء والفقراء وتعمل على تحجيم الفقر إلى أدنى مستوياته، كما بينت الدراسة أنه في حال تطبيق الزكاة فان معامل جيني سينخفض من (0.3945) قبل تطبيق الزكاة إلى (0.3681) بعد تطبيقها، مما أثر في الاقتراب من عدالة التوزيع بنسبة (0.0264) أو 2.64 % وهذا ما يؤكد إثبات فرضيات البحث .
