يُعد موضوع الدراسة أكبر من أن يغنيه بحث، أو تشبعه رسالة أو أطروحة لما يحمل ما بين طياته من آفاق وأبعاد تحتاج إلى تظافر جهود العديد من المتخصصين والباحثين في العلوم الطبية والإدارية للحد من العدوى وتخليص المجتمع من آثارها الكارثية.
ولقد سُلّط الضوء هنا على عدة محاور ذات صلة وثيقة بالعدوى، منها محاور طبية وأخرى إدارية. وتبين أن سبب تفشي العدوى في المستشفيات العراقية، على نطاق واسع وخطير، يتأتى من عدم اتباعها للمعايير والمقاييس العالمية المعتمدة، ولا يتوفر لديها برامج متخصصة في السيطرة على العدوى، فضلاً عن ضعف الوعي الصحي لدى الملاكات التمريضية، وعدم جدية الأطباء في متابعة ونقل الحقائق المتعلقة بمدى تفشي العدوى، ولا توجد لديها دراسات إحصائية تتناول أرقاماً دقيقة عن حجم الأضرار الاقتصادية والاجتماعية الناجمة عنها.
وكان من أبرز أهداف الدراسة، قد تمثل بتقديم نموذج مقترح لتطبيق متطلبات الجودة في السيطرة على العدوى، من خلال تطبيق كفوء لمعايير ومقاييس عالمية معتمدة من قبل منظمة الصحة العالمية.
