رغم كل الامكانيات التي يمتلكها العراق لأنتاج الاسماك إلا انه هناك تدني في مستوى الانتاج وفي معدل استهلاك الفرد يعود إلى جملة اسباب منها ضعف حجم الاستثمارات، توقف الدعم الحكومي، انخفاض كبير في كميات المياه، ارتفاع نسبة الملوحة ونسبة التلوث في المياه، استخدام وسائل واساليب صيد بدائية، ضعف القوانين والتشريعات، سياسة اغراق الاسواق بالمنتجات المستوردة.
رغم كل ذلك اظهر البحث ان هناك فرص استثمارية كبيرة جداً في هذا القطاع من خلال حجم السوق والقدرة الاستيعابية له ونمو دخل الفرد ومستواه الثقافي عزز ذلك دراسة الجدوى التي اقيمت واعطت مؤشراً جيداً ومشجعاً على الاستثمار.
