تعدّ الصناعات الكيمياوية ذات اهمية كبيرة بالنسبة لاقتصاد اي بلد،من خلال ما تتحمله هذه الصناعات من جزء هام من التغيرات الواردهَ في الناتج الصناعي التحويلي، وفضلاً عن ان لهذه الصناعات تداخلات وتشابكات قطاعية واسعة مع بقية قطاعات الصناعة التحويلية، ومع قطاع الزراعة والخدمات، من خلال ما تقدمة هذه الصناعات من منتجات تدخل كمستلزمات انتاج مثل الاسمدة الكيمياوية إذ تستخدم في انتاج المحاصيل الزراعية، اضافة للمجالات المتنوعة لاستخدام الفوسفور في الصناعات الغذائية ، لدرجه أنه يصعب إيجاد مادة غذائية لا يدخل في تحضيرها هذا العنصر المهم، حيث يدخل في صناعة الخبز والبسكويت والأجبان بأنواعها وكوسيط في صناعتي الملح والسكر، كما ان بعض المركبات والمواد المنتجة من قبل القطاع الكيمياوي تستخدم في الصناعات الجلدية ودباغة الجلود، وصناعة المنسوجات...الخ.
