يتميز العراق بكونه واحداً من أقدم الدول الذي اكتشف به النفط الخام وباحتياطيات هائلة في منطقة الشرق الأوسط منذ عام 1927، و بدأ بتصدير النفط الخام منذ عام 1934وحتى الوقت الحاضر . وعلى مدى ثمانية عقود خلت اعتمد الاقتصاد العراقي على الموارد المالية المتأتية من تصدير النفط الخام لتسيير كافة القطاعات الاقتصادية الأخرى .
جرى تناول هذا البحث وفق هيكلية تضمنت ثلاثة محاور رئيسة تضمن المحور الأول استعراض الإمكانيات النفطية في العراق. وتناول المحور الثاني ، موضوع تذبذب أسعار الصادرات النفطية العراقية في أسوق النفط العالمية ، في حين ركز المحور الثالث على انعكاسات تذبذب الأسعار النفطية على الوضع الاقتصادي في العراق ، إضافة للخاتمة والاستنتاجات
