يهدف البحث التعرف على دور التخطيط العلمي للخزين من خلال تحديد كمية الطلب الاقتصادية وعدد مرات الشراء وما يرتبط بهما من تكاليف اجمالية سنوية لتحقيق مستوى كافي وملائم من الخزين , فقد اعتمد البحث على منهج دراسة الحالة وتم تجميع بيانات فعلية حقيقية عن واقع طلب وشراء بعض المواد ذات الطلب المتزايد في معهد الادارة التقني ومعرفة درجة تطابق خطة الشراء مع المؤشرات القياسية المعتمدة بأسلوب علمي ومنها كمية الطلب الاقتصادية وعدد مرات الشراء آنفة الذكر .
وكانت اهم النتاتج التي توصل إليها البحث هي وجود تباين ( اختلاف ) كبير ما بين كمية الشراء الاقتصادية لكل صنف من الاصناف المخزنية للمواد قيد البحث وبين كمية الشراء الفعلية التي قامت المنظمة بشراءها خلال السنة الواحدة .
