تكتسب السياسة الاقتصادية اهمية استثنائية في اقتصاد شديد الاحادية كالاقتصاد العراقي اذ تشكل ايرادات النفط مركز الثقل في الموازين الداخلية والخارجية . وقد شهدت السياسة الاقتصادية في العراق لما بعد عام 2003 غياباً للرؤية الاستراتيجية الاقتصادية والفشل في تطبيق السياسات القادرة على تحقيق التنمية الاقتصادية اذ كان هناك انفصاماً وعدم تكامل وتنسيق بين السياسات الكلية وخاصة السياسة النقدية والسياسة المالية وكأنهما سياستان عائمتان لايربطهما رابط
