يهتم البحث بألاطار ألمفاهيمي للأزمة متجاوزا" وجهة النظر التقليدية التي تصفها كحدث يدمر أو يؤثر في المنظمة ككل ، إلى وجهة النظر الإستراتيجية ، بكونها لحظة حاسمة ونقطة تحول نحو الأفضل أو الأسوأ ، متناولا" خصائص الأزمة التي تختلف فيها عن النكبة والكارثة، إضافة إلى مراحلها المتعددة ذات المستويات المختلفة من الألم التي تنتج في تأثيرات متباينة في المنظمة وأدارتها مما يستوجب إجراءات متنوعة. وقد تجاوز البحث الحالي التصنيفات التقليدية للأزمة ذات الأساس الواحد مستندا" إلى التصنيفات الحديثة التي اعتمدت أكثر من معيار. ولأن الأزمة الرئيسة ينتج عنها عدة أزمات مرافقة ينبغي إدارتها جميعاً في وقت واحد ، فقد تطرق البحث إلى أهمها وهي الأزمة الإعلامية التي تتعلق بالاتصالات خلال الأزمة وترتبط بالجانب ألمعلوماتي ، والأزمة السيكولوجية التي ترتبط بالجانب الإنساني ويمكن التعامل معها من خلال أدارة الضحية. كما توجه البحث الحالي صوب تطوير إستراتيجية لإدارة الأزمات على وفق المنظور الإسلامي واستنادا" إلى أنموذج Augustine, 1995)).
